The Breakdown is back with the hotness and this time we're joined by a couple big screen celebrity stars who just so happen to be hoops fanatics.

Our first guest is no stranger to film and television and old school basketball heads like myself will remember him in films like "White Men Can't Jump" and "Above the Rim". (RIP Tupac)

That's right, Duane Martin is on the program to offer his NBA opinions and share a few laughs. Duane also gets us up to speed on his role as "Fernando" on the hilarious NBC sitcom, "The Paul Reiser Show"

We'll then hear from a woman who's not only a diehard Boston Celtics fan but also a pretty good heckler. If you don't believe me, check in with Vince Carter and he'll tell you himself!

Maria Menounos bleeds Boston green and white and she stops by the show to let us know what she thinks of her beloved Boston Celtics thus far. The very busy actress/media reporter can now add New York Times best selling author to her list as she fills us in on her book, "The Every Girl's Guide To Life".

How's it going everybody?!

We, at The Breakdown, have some exciting news! Audley and I are becoming authors for the first time! That's right! We're releasing a quote book later this spring!

Basketball Talk, The Way It Should Be: A Baller and Celebrity Quote Book is a fun read that features hilarious, outrageous and inspiring quotes from many of our past guests including Gary Payton, Spud Webb and Vivica A. Fox just to name a few!

In addition, we'll have some great caricature illustrations.

And if all that wasn't enough, Jaleel "Steve Urkel" White provided the foreword!

It's definitely worth checking out!

Audley and I will also be donating some of the book proceeds to a couple charities that have some significance to us personally, Epilepsy Halton Peel and the ErinoakKids Foundation.

Get ready because this will be a basketball quote book like no other!

We're getting pumped up for our next episode this Sunday! This week, we have 2-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year Winner, Ricky Pierce on the program!

Back in the day, he was lethal off the bench. In fact, he had seasons in which he averaged (19.5, 23 and 20.5 ppg) strictly as a sixth man. Not bad at all.

He'll share his insight on his successful career in addition to what he's up to now including how he's helping ballers and kids with their jump shots through his teaching tools - AccuUShot22 and Bouncing Billy.

Also on the show, Audley and I will be joined by our boy, Matt Rury from the CLNS Radio family to give his thoughts on the playoff performance of the Celtics thus far.

Canadian Breakdown

In what may go down as one of the most improbable Final Four brackets in NCAA history, this yearʼs version of March Madness has completely lived up to the name.

If your name is Sherman Hamilton, or youʼre living in the Richmond area, then yes, you expected this to happen - why wouldnʼt you? And if youʼre a fan of child-looking coaching staffs and repeat Cinderella performances, then again, you expected this.

Iʼd be lying to you if I didnʼt think Shaka Smart wasnʼt a politician the first time I heard his name dropped. Iʼd also be lying to you if I told you that of course I knew UCONN would win five straight games just to make it into the tournament and Kemba Walker would increase his draft stock like a Pamela Anderson boob job.

But I didnʼt.

Without a doubt, this may be some of the best basketball ever seen in the month of March. With nearly every game coming down to the final three minutes, fans have been on the edge of their seats constantly.

And how great it is!

In a year where the NBA is focused on superhero teams and lockout discussions, finally we get a look at players who arenʼt playing for the big money - right now - but for the love of the game, their family, and their respected schools.

Brackets have been busted and presidents upset, the stunning uprise of VCU, the shocking defeat of Duke and the always lackluster Kansas performance has created twists and turns.

While all of these great stories have created drama on the big stage, itʼs time to take a look at the Canadians who showed up and represented for their country. After Marquetteʼs loss to UNC, the final Canadian was knocked out of the tournament, so without further ado hereʼs to you, Cana-ballers.

Junior Cadougan: Junior had a solid year at Marquette coming off a knee injury. While he only averaged four points per game and played limited minutes, it was his energy that helped Marquette make it to the Sweet 16. Against West Virginia, Cadougan was huge scoring 15 points and dishing out five assists.

As the tournament went on, his play only got stronger. In a losing effort Cadougan was able to have another double-digit scoring effort with 10 points while handing out another five assists. With one healthy season under his belt, the skyʼs the limit for the stud out of Toronto.

Bryson Johnson: Perhaps one of the most unknown Canadians in the tournament, Johnson had the tough task of matching up in the first round with the streaking UCONN Huskies and Kemba Walker. Johnson, a perimeter player out of Pictou, Nova Scotia, was huge for Bucknell as they won their conference title and secured their spot in the big boy bracket.

Johnson finished the season 10th in three-point shots made (99), and in the top-50 in three point percentage shooting a blistering 46 percent. In just his second season, Johnson took his game to new levels and proved that even though heʼs from a town smaller than your local grocery store employee list, hard work pays off.

Kyle Johnson: We caught up with Kyle before his first round matchup with UNC, and you could smell the excitement coming off him. Kyleʼs put in more work than a lot of people and itʼs paid off big time. Representing for Long Island University, Kyle lead his team to an SEC-Title and played solid all season long.

Averaging 10 points per game, Johnson was able to lead the Blackbirds to their best season in recent history. Now after finishing the tournament, heʼll focus on training to participate with the British national team this summer. Joining Kyle on the Blackbirds are fellow Canadians Arnold Mayorga, Robinson Odoch Opong and Troy Joseph.

Kris Joseph: Montrealʼs own Kris Joseph had another stellar season for the Syracuse Orangemen and looked to be on his way deep into the national tournament. Unfortunately, rankings donʼt mean everything. The third year star averaged 14.3 points per game on the season and had a stellar tournament.

In his final game agains the aforementioned Cadougan and Marquette, Joseph finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Josephʼs draft stock is high in the NBA right now, but with one more year left on his college career and unfinished business, donʼt be surprised to see him back for one more season.

Of course, there were two groups of Canadians representing two schools in the NCAA. When you think Canada, you usually either think of Texas or Gonzaga. Who doesnʼt know the names Cory Joseph and Tristan Thompson by now? Who hasnʼt heard Robert Sacreʼs name for the past ten years?

Gonzagaʼs connection: The trio of Mangisto Arop, Kelly Olynyk and Robert Sacre have been nothing but a blessing for Gonzaga and itʼs program. An always stellar program, the Zags have been able to continue their winning tradition with talent north of the border. Since his days of provincial team ball, Sacreʼs name has been linked to the NBA. After going through injuries early in his college career, one more season looks like it may put the big man back on the NBA map.

Kelly Olynyk, the sharp shooting seven foot big man out of Kamloops is another name to pay attention to. His ability to create off the dribble and shoot from deep makes him a threat against any team. And finally, Manny Arop the Edmonton native continues to bring his athletic game into the Gonzaga backcourt. With the core staying together, another year of Gonzaga basketball can only scare the rest of the field.

Texas: Joseph seems to be a trending name in College basketball. We had Kris Joseph in Syracuse, Devoe Joseph for Oregon, and now his brother Cory playing for Texas. Perhaps one of the best guards in the country, Joseph proved that heʼs not only focused on becoming the best at the point in college, but hopefully one day in the NBA. On the year Joseph averaged a quiet ten points, but it wasnʼt so much his numbers as it was his leadership and ability to be a floor general that made him so valuable to Texas. The addition of Myck Kobongo next season into the Longhorn backcourt automatically makes Texas a title threat.

Along side Joseph is long-time friend and teammate Tristan Thompson.

Thompson had arguably the best season of his career at any level averaging 13.1 points per game along with seven rebounds and a huge showing in the NCAA Tournament. As a freshman, Thompson turned heads and proved that even though he was young his skill was seasoned. Thompson had some monster games this season including a huge double-double effort against Kansas St. with 26 points and 10 rebounds. On the season, the Brampton native finished with ten double-doubles. Currently heʼs undecided if heʼll return to college or pursue his NBA dream. Regardless, the futureʼs bright for the young freshman.

Of course, these arenʼt the only Canadians who have ever made or will make the tournament, but itʼs great to see the game developing and expanding across North America.

Keep your eyes on these kids because one day you may too be paying to watch them play.

Stevano of the U.G.O. Crew Stops By!

Dave and Audley got a chance to catch up with Stevano, lead rapper of the Canadian group, U.G.O. (Under Ground Officials) Crew. The urban music group have been on a sweet little run as of late which includes a tour with the Digable Planets across Europe, a Toronto show with Fabolous and they collaborated with Sean Kingston on a Juno nominated track called "Change".

Stevano lets us know which popular group he would compare their style to, their connection to Heat guard, Dwyane Wade and what the U.G.O. Crew has planned in the future.

Johnson Ready For The Big Show

You may not know a lot about Long Island University basketball program. You might not even know about Kyle Johnson. One thing’s for sure though - you’ll remember both by the end of March.

Coming out of Canada, Kyle had always dreamed of making it to the NCAA tournament and making his mark on the big stage. All he had to do was get there first.

Now, with an opening round matchup against the illustrious North Carolina Tar Heels, Johnson gets that chance.

An alumni of the PHASE 1 basketball program, Johnson’s gone through a lot to get to where he’s at today. Lead by Wayne Dawkins, Johnson gives a ton of credit to both Coach Dawkins and the program for his success. We got a chance to talk to Kyle about his thoughts before the tournament, PHASE 1, and his thoughts on international ball and how Canadians are making their mark south of the border.

Mat MacDonald: How much do you think working with Coach Dawkins and PHASE 1 helped your success today

Kyle Johnson: Coach Dawkins and PHASE 1 has helped me a great deal with my basketball development and success today. Coach Dawkins is great at critiquing each individuals basketball game and he focuses on the development of each individual player. He sees weaknesses in your game that you might not know you have, and focuses on how to turn those weaknesses into your
strengths. I have been a part of PHASE 1 since high school, and every offseason I always come back to work out with the programs PHASE 1 has to offer because I can be sure to get quality workouts and get something out of my off season to help me get better.

MM: Coming into the season what were some of the main things you focused on in preparing for the year?

KJ: Coming into the season I focused a lot on being a better leader, as well as my defence and ball handling. In the offseason I spent my time working out with the PHASE 1 training camps, and it was great. Coach Dawkins got some new equipment he used to help me with my speed and agility as well as conditioning.

MM: How does it feel to come out of Ontario and find yourself leading your team into one of the biggest tournaments in all of sports?

KJ: It feels great coming out of Ontario and leading my team into one of the biggest tournaments in all of sports. I remember my freshman year my team was picked to finish last in our conference, and now in my senior year we finished off with one of the best records our conference has ever seen. We also have four Canadians on this team.

MM: What's been the biggest benefit you've received from PHASE 1?

KJ: The biggest benefit I received from PHASE 1 is the opportunity to train and improve my game every year. PHASE 1 expands every year with new equipment and training techniques which helps me get better as a player because I am always looking to improve and I spend a lot of my training time with PHASE 1.

MM: Looking ahead to the future what are your goals after this season? With PHASE 1?

KJ: After the season my goals with PHASE 1 are to continue doing what I do every off season, and that is train and work hard on getting better so I can prepare for the next level.

MM: How are you going to prepare for the British National team once your season's over?

KJ: To prepare for the British National Team I am going to work out hard as well as watch a lot of film on myself from this past season and look at my weaknesses, this way I will be able to eliminate some of them and improve as a basketball player.

MM: How does it feel to play a team like UNC first round?

KJ: It is going to be a great experience playing UNC in the NCAA Tournament first round. Growing up everyone always talks about how great of a program North Carolina and Duke are and the great players that attended school there. I'm a competitor and look forward to the challenge.

MM: How will you match up against their guards?

KJ: North Carolina is a big and physical team, they lead the nation in rebounding, but we are not far behind we are 3rd in the nation in rebounding. We have to limit their transition baskets and keep them off the offensive glass because those are things they are exceptional at.

MM: Do you enjoy being an "underdog"?

KJ: I love the fact that we are underdogs, we have a opportunity to be a Cinderella team and put a lot of pressure on anyone we face. We will not be a easy out for anyone!

MM: Coming out of Canada and seeing all these Canadian players now playing in the NCAA, do you think that Canada as a country is catching up to the US?

KJ: I believe that Canada is growing with basketball but it has not yet caught up to the U.S. The U.S. puts a lot more money into basketball and there is still a lot more exposure when it comes to basketball out here. Our country has grown so much over the years when it comes to basketball, and I can’t wait to see where it goes as there are so many talented basketball players in Canada.
With his sights on a another title and millions watching across North America and the world, you can bet that when the lights turn on and the opening tip happens Friday night, Johnson and his boys will be ready.

Johnson’s fairy-tale season came up short. His team lost to UNC by double-digits and Kyle struggled with foul trouble the whole game.

One thing’s for sure, Kyle lived out the dream.

Janet Jackson Delivers a Winning Performance!

Remember the feeling you had back in '95 when you first learned Michael Jordan was making his comeback to the NBA after concluding a minor league baseball career?

I don't know about you but I was mixed with both intrigue and excitement at the thought of #23 lacing up his kicks and returning to the basketball court to once again, dominate.

He was back on his stage doing what he was meant to do.

Well, a similar wave of emotions came over me on Saturday night when Janet Jackson took stage at the Sony Centre For The Performing Arts for her Number Ones: Up Close and Personal tour.

The five time Grammy winning artist returned for the first of two back-to-back shows and gave a Jordan like performance that featured classic songs like What Have You Done For Me Lately, Doesn’t Really Matter, Escapade, When I Think Of You and my personal favourite, Rhythm Nation.

If you've seen her perform live in the past, you definitely would have noticed a change. Much the same way Jordan didn’t jump as high as he did in the past or attack the rim with the same ferocity, the R&B-pop-dance diva's show was different.

The smaller more intimate venue really gave the 3,200 fans in attendance a chance to get up close and personal to the dance pop star and the crowd hung on to every note and giggle for the entire performance.

It was an awesome show and Janet's tribute to her brother Michael (Jackson) that featured several black and white photos from their childhood and snippets of their duet video, Scream, was a perfect way to conclude the evening.

Just like we've seen Jordan do on a nightly basis, MJ's little sister delivered in the clutch!

He played basketball for 3 years in the prestigious ACC conference at Clemson University where he is one of it's top 10 all-time players. Sharone was drafted 6th overall by Philadelphia in 1994 and also played for the Toronto Raptors. After 5 years in the NBA, he went to Europe as a player for 7 years and now coaches.

SAVING PRIVATE NAISMITH( NOT RYAN)

I’m a product of a basketball powerhouse in Macon Georgia called Southwest High school. It's a huge school and even bigger in sports history because of one man’s teachings.

Donald "Duck “Richardson was a father figure and a bball God to all people in the south. He changed lives with his teachings and his basketball knowledge. He was a cross between Bobby Knight, Attila the Hun and Vito Corleone. I still have night mares about some of the lessons that he taught me.

But ya know what, it all helped in becoming a man.

At these so called powerhouses it seems you had everything from equipment, shoes and different clothes and such. It was a good situation especially because it was hard time in the 80s and 90s. Everyone was struggling back then even more than now. It was like a boarding school but you got to go home. We even had study hall and Nike was a sponsor so we got free shoes, bags and clothes.

Before the AAU teams existed there were just programs that even played throughout the summer. If not for the Boston Shootout program back then, I’d probably would have spent my days in the Southwest gym all day throughout the summer. There were others too. Hyattsville Dematha, Mater Dei in California, Chicago's King High School, Jersey Cities St. Anthony High School, New York’s Christ the King High School, St Raymond's High school, Atlanta Douglas High School and so on. Only a handful of these were around back then.

But there is one school that you could say is an assembly line for NBA players.

Oak Hill Academy is the Ford Company of high school basketball and has a long history of producing great players.

I guess you could argue that they were already good players when they got to Oak Hill because they played on other high school programs and teams but I’m told Oak Hill can make or break you.

With Legendary Coach Steve Smith at the helm, they've amassed one heck of a record in his tenure.

He's had incredible success.

• National Champs: 1993, 1994, 1999, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007
• Runners-Up: 1990, 1992, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2009

In basketball life, everyone knows that you can be the best coach in the world but if you don’t have players you'll never be successful. I agree.

That’s why you have to recruit well. But when you’re at Oak Hill, you don’t have to spend a lot of time recruiting because your success will attract the best players.

Let’s name a few:

Carmelo Anthony- New York Knicks
Michael Beasley – Minnesota T-Wolves
Sagana Diop – Charlotte Bobcats
Kevin Durant – Oklahoma City Thunder
Stephen Jackson – Charlotte Bobcats
Brandon Jennings – Milwaukee Bucks
Ty Lawson – Denver Nuggets
Rajon Rondo – Boston Celtics
Josh Smith – Atlanta Hawks
Jerry Stackhouse – Former first round pick of the Philadelphia 76ers

Let's not forget the great Rod Strickland!

It's players like these that made Oak Hill a pipeline for greatness.

Nowadays it’s the AAU program and its greediness that conquers high school ball.

It’s amazing to see how much of these kids and parents get exploited.

If you have a kid that’s a very good ball player, 9 times out of 10 your kid will be on an AAU team and will be treated like a king. I’ve seen it as an AAU coach.

I know some of these coaches and programs are out for the good of the kids but not many. It’s almost as bad as the shoe companies. The shoes companies are exploiting kids as well. It’s because of them why it's easy for families and coaches to trade kids off for shoes, money and gear.

It’s ridiculous when you think of it but it’s a real thing. Nike and Adidas are waging a real war to get the best talent in America. They go as far as visiting middle school games and rec league games.

I think that's going too far, unless you have parents that don’t care and only think about money and prestige. But for the parents like me who also want my kids to enjoy the game and learn the game, we know and want better.

What’s behind the New York Gauchos, Atlanta Stars, Atlanta Celtics, Alabama Ice, Riverside Church, Lebrons AAU squad or Dwayne Wade’s? Well it may be money or it may be for the betterment of the kids. Check the bank accounts of the coaches and handlers and you’ll find out.

But what’s crazy is that it doesn’t have to be this way.

I think all of the good coaches and programs are dead now. I know my own high school program is shot now. No more high school all Americans, no great teams and no more packed gyms complete with scouts drooling.

Holiday tournaments that meant something are gone and the real teaching of the game is non existent. The hoop scoop magazine and BC camps are all over in the south.

Gone are Nike ABCD camps that showcased players like myself, Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Penny Hardaway and Grant Hill. We'll never have an opportunity to see this kind of basketball ever again. Nor will we see the grueling summer camps that either made you into a real player or broke you.

Will we ever see another Don Richardson (Southwest Macon), Morgan Wooten (Dematha), Bob Hurley Sr (St Anthony’s), Steve Smith (Oak Hill)?

These coaches are rare and legendary in that they teach the game in a unique and old school way and they aren't compromised like AAU handlers and coaches are.

I’m not saying older school coaches didn’t or don’t enjoy little perks, but it’s no way to the extent that the coaches and AAU guys are doing now. I'm all for saving the game from being exploited this way and what better than to go where it starts. The high school ranks.

I know Dr. Naismith would roll over in his grave if he knew how it’s become. Of course that would be after he cashes his billion dollar check for inventing the great game of basketball.

To me it’s like the being at an auction and bidding on players that are just teenagers.

I'll bid $60,000 on that Lebron Kid from Ohio.

Going once, going twice? Sold!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lakers top Thunder to win four straight

Heading into the NBA All-Star break, there were a lot of questions surrounding the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers and their chances of being able to pull off a three-peat. Not only had the Lakers just lost three straight to the Orlando Magic, Charlotte Bobcats and most notably to the lowly Cleveland Cavaliers, but it was uncertain whether or not these losses would lead Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak to making a trade and shaking up this roster.

Fortunately, Kupchak neglected to make a deal as he felt the team could bounce back after the All-Star break and start playing at a championship caliber once again. This was a gamble to say the least as the defending champs have been under the microscope throughout the majority of the season with many people questioning the team's need to get younger, but as Kobe Bryant and company always seem to do, they bounced back with three impressive wins in a row over the Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers and the Los Angeles Clippers.

Even though these wins were obviously a step in the right direction as the team showed signs of getting back to form, the real test was this past Sunday against Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder. With the Thunder giving the Lakers a run for their money in the first round of the playoffs last year, they have become a new threat to the defending champs as they match up quite well with this team.

The Lakers have had a size advantage whenever these two teams go head-to-head, but the Thunder has the speed that always seems to get the best of Phil Jackson's squad. The one player the drives them crazy more than any other is All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook. With his lightening quick speed and ability to score the basketball at will, the Lakers backcourt players always have trouble staying in front of the former UCLA guard as he causes major matchup problems.

This game in Oklahoma City was no different as Westbrook led all scorers with 22 points. Veteran point guard Derek Fisher was basically getting taken off the dribble every time down court by Westbrook, but even though the Lakers just couldn't stop the young All-Star they were able to use their size to their advantage once again.

With a solid performance by Andrew Bynum (16 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks) and Pau Gasol (18 points, 12 rebounds) leading the way in the scoring department for the defending champs, the Lakers were able to ultimately come out on top, but it was Kobe Bryant's (finished with 17 points) late game heroics that gave them the win as hit the go-ahead just over Russell Westbrook to give the Lakers the lead.

The Thunder still had some time on the clock to hit a game-tying 3-pointer in order to take the game into overtime, but both Kevin Durant and James Harden couldn't convert with pretty good looks as time expired. With both Durant and Harden missing, the Lakers went on to win their fourth straight 90-87.

Orlando Magic Senior VP, Pat Williams stops by the program and reflects back on winning the NBA draft lottery which landed the team, Shaquille O'Neal as the first overall pick in 92.

But it didn't stop there because the Magic won the first overall pick again in 1993 and as Pat puts it, "Commissioner David Stern wasn't very happy and not real friendly as I was coming towards him".

Since you been goneeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! I love that Song by Kelly Clarkson and that’s how I’m feeling today after not posting anything for a while.

See it’s been way too long. I’m sorry folks but I’m not a professional writer and my real job says that I spend lots of time coaching and scouting.

Maybe I can ask my boss to let me have some time to write since there is soo much to talk about.

I have to tell you guys that I really enjoyed the NBA All-Star game and weekend.

It never ceases to amaze me how much the NBA league office does to make this event be a hit each year. They do a good job of mixing entertainment and sports. It’s like the Oscars and a The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh all wrapped in one weekend.

I can’t say that the I'm impressed with the selection process. I'm sick and tired of guys not making the All -Star game that deserve it. It’s as if there are about 20 million idiots voting and they are only voting for the players that they either see on Sportscenter or on commercials. If they don’t see a player on ESPN then the fans know nothing about it.

That’s why I think a portion of the voting or most of it should be done by the players and coaches.

Case in point.

China has like 6789 billion people there and on any given chance, will always vote for Yao Ming.

OK, that’s cool when Yao was really balling but hey lets face it, the Great Wall hasn’t done jack crap in 3 years. And how about the fact that he didn’t even play this year and was voted a starter.

I guess they figure he might have been ready for the game? NOT!!!!!!!

How about watch the games people and do your homework. That’s what's wrong with the game.

There’s soo much voting for guys that are so called superstars even if they aren’t having superstar seasons. Tim Duncan was voted as an All -Star despite the fact that he's played like nothing this year. So why stop settling for a well known player and give that spot to NENE who has played not great this year and certainly better than Duncan.

Oh ok, you’re probably saying the Spurs have the best record. That doesn’t mean anything when this is an individual honour.

You know something is wrong when they had to force the issue to get Kevin Love on the team and this kid has like 4000 double doubles already in a first half of a season.

Yet he had to make a rap video With Lil Wayne in order to get noticed for what he has done. Crazy crap! Lets reward these players for their games and their hard work and not their cameos appearances...

I'm venting because that’s kind of what I do well. See I have the ability to see things before they happen. Like for instance I could see the tension with Jerry Sloan and Deron Williams brewing like the Labatt’s Beer company. It was happening all of the time and it boiled over!

The reports are saying that Sloan was growing ever so pissed at Williams and vice versa. My question is why didn’t the GM and team officials step in and police the matter before it boiled over?

Maybe then we wouldn’t be where we are today and asking why a Hall of Fame coach and one of the most respected coaches of all time abruptly just quit in the middle of the season.

It's mind boggling to say the least but what is known all over the NBA is that Sloan himself isn’t always easy to get along with. So the blame can't all go towards Williams. I’ve personally talked to guys that played for Sloan on many occasions and while they all respect and admire him for his career, they all didn’t want to play for him all of the time either.

You know the story. Something like this happens and every person that has played for him starts talking about how great Sloan was and how they learned from him. But they forget to say how some of them hated him.

I know the scenario too.

Not every player will get along with a coach and vice versa but those things should stay in the locker room. That’s the NBA code of silence. Too much is leaked out these days.

The Ric Buchers and the Chris Broussards of the world pester the players too much and when they don’t get what they want, they make up things, I think.

Especially if there are problems in the locker rooms.

When I played we didn’t talk to guys in the media like this. We had leaders who ironed things out and stepped in to mash out anything that could detour our team from winning.

That’s what good leaders do.

Ever get wind of a problem in the Celtics locker room? Wonder why? It’s because the big three plus Shaq have combined years that are older than Robert Parrish and Morgan Freeman put together. Nowadays a rookie comes in to the league and 2 years later this guy is the captain wearing the C on his shirt.

That’s crazy!!

Deron is in Jersey now as we know and they say they hope to build the team around him which would be great but what if he doesn’t want to stay? What then Jersey? I know you guys think because the new owner has 3449 billion dollars (something like that) so you think its ok.

But he and Jay-z will have a Hard Knock life if they don’t get Williams to sign and score a better roster.

That’s why I love the Carmelo Anthony trade to the Knicks.

I had doubts that it would ever get done but it did only because James Dolan the owner has the cake to do it with.

Melo is one of my favorite players because he has a mentality that he can score on anyone. He has that scorer’s mindset, he brings 27 points per game and lots of rebounds to match it with Amare's 25ppg.

So you could argue that it’s on and popping but Chauncey Billups will also contribute. Some say that NYC gave up too much. Well let’s look at that. Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Timovfey Mozgov and Raymond Felton. Three of these guys were starters yet the Knicks were a basic .500 team and not really playing that great lately.

The comparison of Felton and Billups is a wash to me but honestly Billups has soo much more playoffs experience. Gallinari has been too inconsistent to pinpoint which way is up or down with him.

Erratic shooting and no defence plague him.

Wilson Chandler is a player that I felt they should have tried to keep. He’s a very high energy defender and his offence has really come around since coming out of college. But they kept Landry Fields and he has been a steal in the draft for them.

He has been a starter all year. Great scouting will do that for ya. But when you have a chance to get a player of Melo's calibre, you have to jump on that.

He’s a once in a lifetime player. Don’t ask George Karl though. He sounded like he was glad Melo was gone in a recent interview and really made a case that he only would miss Billups and not Melo.

Saying that Melo has a personality that is hard to deal with. Woww talk about waiting until the guy leaves to throw him under the bus?

Beep beeeeep.

Seriously though Melo will be a monster in the Garden and with Amare in tow, this should be interesting once all of the Knick pieces are put on the chess board. BTW I love the way they added Corey Brewer. Talk about defence? This kid can do it. Some where I hope Glen Grunwald had some thing to do with the Knicks getting Melo. I'm also looking forward to the new LALA and Carmelo realty show. Hey it beats the hell out of watching Glee...

Baron Davis to Cleveland, Bibby to the Wizards, Mo Williams to the Clippers, Devin Harris to Utah for Deron Williams, Landry to the Hornets, Battier back to Memphis. Wowwww soo many deals that made sense and a lot of them made none. It’s like that game show Deal or no Deal. Only this time there seem to be no real prizes after Deron Williams and Melo.

The state of the NBA continues to be up for grabs. It seems that every day that the NFL gets closer to what both sides want in that league, our CBA is getting further and further away. I feel that this is not going to get it done. There must be more meetings and more attention must be paid to the demands of both sides.

My sources tell me that if it is to be done, the owners say they are not going to budge. Let’s hope the demand of the game and the fans yelling for the game that they love will halt this pending Lockout. If not, it’ll be harder to look at than those Black Mamba commercials with Kobe and Kanye West. Ouch!!

I can certainly understand some of the teams in the NBA that are losing their superstar players and getting nothing in return for them. It’s not an easy thing to see. Toronto losing Mcgrady, Carter and Bosh. Cleveland losing Lebron, Denver losing Carmelo.

The feeling now is that certain players force their way out of town and I'm not for that. But I am for the rights of the player to do what he wishes if he has played and played hard and given all that he has.

In your contract year it is your decision to make.

It was Lebron's and it was Bosh's, it was Melo's and for sure it will be Dwight Howard's and Chris Paul's very soon. Let’s not forget that this is their life and they cannot live it for fans, owners and common folk who only get to see them on the court for 2 hours a night.

This is most always a family issue and you have to do whets best for yourself and your family. The owners at the end of the day will do whets best for their teams.

Remember my blog post about the Clippers owner making fun of Baron Davis and mocking him at games? Well Davis started balling after he got healthy. And what happened then?

The Clippers trade him to the worst team in the NBA.

See what I mean about loyalty?? There is none... To some owners you’re just a piece of meat at the market.

Let’s see how things pan out with the newly structured teams.

Breaking Down The Deadline

Itʼs that time of the year again, folks. The point in the NBA season where basketball fans get their 48 hours of trade talk and hoopla that NHL fans thrive on. Itʼs the time of the season where pretenders make moves to become contenders, and the top of the pack laugh at the idea of trading away valuable pieces to the Cavaliers. Yes, itʼs the NBA trade deadline week.

Breaking down the big deals, we take a closer look at whatʼs transpired and how it looks for each team moving forward in the second half of the season.

The Deals

NYK: Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups

DEN: The world

Yes, thatʼs what went down. An NBA franchise was shipped off to Denver in order to bring in one superstar player. Is it worth it? Depends who you are. Are you Spike Lee and the rest of the New York faithful whoʼve been waiting for a contender since the days of Houston and Ewing? Or are you another Hollywood buzz who made their way down to the Big Apple for some R&R and enjoy the flashing lights and big stars?

Regardless of who/what you are, the dealʼs a good one for both teams. The Knicks get a chance to pick up their real face of the franchise. Sure, Amarʼe was great, but at some point you had to realize that he wasnʼt going to be the leader the Knicks needed come playoff time. With Carmelo Anthony you have a scorer. A big scorer. A man who can give you double figures in two categories on any given night.

In his debut with the Knicks , Melo went off for 27 points and 10 rebounds. Mind you, it took 25 shots to net all 27 points, but Iʼm sure the New York faithful can turn their shoulder to that. With less of a leading role, Amarʼe still had a decent game and that may be how the rest of the season unwinds with him taking a second role. Thereʼs no doubt that the two of them combined plus Landry Fields and Chauncey Billups make a dangerous group to guard on the floor.

Perhaps the biggest addition to the Knicks is Billups. A proven winner, the Knicks now have a floor general whoʼs been in big situations and lead his team to the NBA Finals. No disrespect to Raymond Felton, because he deserves zero, but the Knicks making the playoffs wasnʼt all that they planned on doing, and besides signing him in the offseason, it was clear that New York was looking to upgrade. The job that Felton did was hands down better than any other PG in the past few years for New York, but in the end, itʼs a business, and with business comes change.

The Nuggets pick up some good pieces in this trade. Taking four starters - if you include Wilson Chandler - the Nuggets donʼt find themselves in the rebuilding phase that Cleveland and Toronto do. Gallinari, Chandler, Felton and Mozgov should provide stability to a now young Nuggets team fighting for the playoffs. If they could do it in New York, thereʼs no doubt that thereʼs a chance they can still do it in Denver. Are the NBA Finals in the picture for the Nuggets? Absolutely not. But if you think those four players are going to consider themselves loose change and fold for the rest of the season, youʼre way off.

The grade for NY: A
The grade for DEN: B

NJ: Deron Williams

UTA: Devon Harris, Derrick Favors, 2 1st Rd. Picks

Ok, so you donʼt get the man you want, you believe you run an empire and you still struggle to comprehend a classic high-five. Thatʼs the life of a Netsʼ manager right now. But still youʼre out there to prove that you mean business and that youʼre going to keep throwing Jay-Zʼs name out there for a reason. So, what do you do? You make a trade to shake up the world - or at least Utah and New Jersey.

Deron Williams obviously takes the role of star in New Jersey now and becomes the new face of the franchise. But was it the right move? Thereʼs been no signal that Williams is going to re-sign in New Jersey when his contract expires, nor is there any sort of idea that Williams ever wanted to go to Jersey in the first place. That being said, the Nets have a lot of work to do. Being traded from a playoff team to a non-contender overnight isnʼt exactly something many players enjoy, but can the Nets swing Deronʼs views?

For Utah, the deal works out great. You get something instead of waiting around and losing your All-Star for nothing. Favors is a bright rookie with tons of potential. Thereʼs no doubt that heʼll be a solid double-double player in Utah, but with all the depth up front you have to wonder where he fits in? Harris is another big name player for Utah that can score. But really, why him? The reason: Dallas. The Mavs have had him on their radar for a long, long time. With his contract coming up, Utah knows that they can use him as leverage and make a move that will give them something good in return.

The logistics of this deal baffle me. It was something no one really expected, but needless to say was an unbelievable steal for either team. The question is, who really lucked out?

The grade for UTA: B+
The grade for NJ: B

CLE: Baron Davis
LAC: Jamario Moon, Mo Williams

One night youʼre throwing balls of out a Kia, the next youʼre in Cleveland. That sounds like it should be a line from the movie The Hangover. What a situation. Baron Davis may have just fallen off the map with this one. In a season that started with him on the bench out of shape, and then throwing lobs to the most athletic big in the NBA, Baron Davis now finds himself as the lone ranger in the depleted Cavaliers back court. One can only hope Dan Gilbert didnʼt introduce him to the media in comic sans.

As for the Clippers, they get a solid guard in Mo Williams and an journey man in Moon. With another option to fly above the rim, the Clippers certainly have an exciting team to watch, but do dunks and highlight-reel plays win games? Again, time will tell. This trade should be swept under the rug, thereʼs no reason for anyone to talk about it. Itʼs clear Baron Davis is very, very sad.

The Clippers and Cavs grade? Let's just say...Kia?

POR: Gerald Wallace
CHA: Dante Cunningham, Joel Przybilla, Sean Marks, 2 first-round picks

Honestly, Charlotte stays the same with this deal. They donʼt really get better, and if anything they get a bit worse, but the reason that they stay ʻthe sameʼ is because this sheds money from their franchise and helps them look ahead at signing a big name free-agent in the future. Draft picks are always helpful for a team looking to add young faces, and without a doubt you can bet Michael Jordan will be on his high horse trying to make deals to get his team to his expectations.
Portland lucks out. If Wallace can stay healthy, the Blazers have that wing scorer back that theyʼve been missing from Brandon Roy - even when heʼs been on the floor.

Wallace is healthy, a vet, and can get the job done. Playing for a good playoff position is an even bigger incentive for Wallace to play at a high level. Heʼs known as a hard worker and a strong player on both ends of the floor which is exactly what the Blazers need. Now they have to make sure he doesnʼt drink the water thatʼs loomed the injury bug over the heads of every Blazer.

Portlandʼs grade: A Charlotteʼs grade: MJ

HOU: Gorgan Dragic, 1st Rd. Pick
PHX: Aaron Brooks

Great deal for the suns...if youʼre an Aaron Brooks fan. This can only mean that the timetable for Steve Nash is ticking down by the second. Sure, heʼll stay for the rest of the season and play out the year, but past 2011, who knows? All signs point to Nash being traded in the off-season if the Suns donʼt make a dramatic push at becoming a team that can win a championship. Playing year after year at such a high level, fans have to expect that at some point the man has to win a championship, no matter where heʼs at. That being said, who knows what the future holds for the Suns.

Houston sent Shane Battier away, shopped Aaron Brooks and found a seller, and now have Gorgan Dragic as their point-guard. One things for sure; Houston needs to make sure Dragic sweeps his floors after his big house parties. In Houstonʼs other “deal” for the day, it saw their best perimeter defender Shane Battier go to the Grizzlies for Hasheem Thabeet and a bag of chips.

Terrible deal for Houston, because honestly, Thabeet is a less sculpted Mutombo. Iʼll hold my judgement back since he is a big man and heʼs young. But god, Iʼll tell you right now that the Grizzlies just got a lot better, and for sure O.J. Mayoʼs going to punch someone in the face.

Houstonʼs rating: C
Phoenixʼs rating: B
Memphisʼ rating: A+

Now, the biggest deal of the day...

BOS: Jeff Green, Nenad Krstic, 1st Rd. Pick
OKC: Kendrick Perkins, Nate Robinson

Wow. Can you win without a center? Sure. But can you beat the elite? Maybe. Itʼs been a head scratcher that the Celtics would move their biggest piece of their defensive puzzle in Perkins, but holy smokes the Thunder just got a lot better. Finally OKC has the big man in the middle that theyʼve always wanted. An enforcer who will grab rebounds and not demand the ball, Perkins fits perfectly into the Thunderʼs system. Will he bring that swagger and anger all the way to the west? Yeah, heʼll bring it.

As for the Celtics and picking up Jeff Green, itʼs great. Heʼs an athletic tweener that can play the three and four. The Celtics need someone that can move on the perimeter, and with Green they have those young legs. Now, will that mess up the chemistry of the Celts core, or will they let Green into their circle?

Thatʼs another story.

As for the others...

Nate Robinson is a spark off the bench, and Iʼm sure the Thunder faithful will love him. Krstic was on the cover of SI and used to play a big role in a playoff team. That being said, maybe heʼll get the time to revive his career, but once again, who knows?

NBA Trade: Carmelo Anthony finally gets dealt to the New York Knicks

The NBA trade rumors involving superstar forward Carmelo Anthony have been swirling around the league for most of the season as it became clear that the All-Star wasn’t going to sign the $65 million dollar three-year contract extension offered by the Denver Nuggets. Even though Melo was almost certainly headed out of the Mile High City, seemingly countless trade proposals were shot down from the Los Angeles Lakers, New Jersey Nets and the New York Knicks.

Fortunately for the Knicks, their last attempt to land the superstar was successful. New York may have been reluctant to trade young players like Danilo Gallinari and recent free acquisition Raymond Felton, but when with the trade deadline looming and the Nuggets dedicated to making a deal before Feb. 24, the Knicks were forced to pull the trigger.

On Tuesday morning, the deal was officially announced as the Denver Nuggets finally agreed to a trade that would send Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Renaldo Balkman and Anthony Carter to the New York Knicks. In exchange, New York has agreed to send Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Timofey Mozgov and a 2014 first-round draft pick to Denver.

So despite being reluctant to parts ways with some of their promising young players, the New York Knicks may have greatly increased their chances of becoming a title contender in the near future. The immediate future will be much harder to determine as it is uncertain whether or not All-Star forward Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony can co-exist.

In my opinion, this move was made by the New York Knicks not only to improve their team immediately, but to secure their future as one of the best teams in the league and a perennial NBA title contender. With the addition of Melo alongside Stoudemire, big-name free agents will almost certainly take notice as All-Star point guards Chris Paul and Deron Williams might be the next superstar to head to the Big Apple.

Whether or not the New York Knicks can land another big-name this summer remains to be seen, but in the meantime it will be interesting to see what this new one-two punch can do in the Big Apple. Another thing that will make this squad better after this trade will be veteran point guard Chauncey Billups in the backcourt. Even though Melo was most likely on cloud nine after this deal was finalized, Billups wasn’t all that happy about yet another move as Denver was his hometown and he loved playing for George Karl and the Denver Nuggets.

Although Billups is probably not in the Knicks long term plans, the veteran point guard will give New York some stability at the point with Raymond Felton heading into the Mile High City. Along with solid outside shooting and ability to hit the big shot, Billups also brings the kind of veteran leadership that this team will need moving forward.

On Wednesday night, the New York Knicks will play host to the Milwaukee Bucks in what will most likely be the first game that Carmelo Anthony suits up for his new team.

R.I.P. Troy Escalade Jackson...You'll Be Missed!

Many were shocked to learn the news that streetball legend, Troy "Escalade" Jackson had passed away in his sleep in his Los Angeles hotel room during NBA All Star Weekend.

I literally received a text moments before The Breakdown was set to go to air on Sunday night and I like many was in disbelief. At 6-foot-10 and over 350 pounds, Troy was spectacular on the court and one of the nicest people you'd meet off it.

He understood what it meant to put on a show and once shared during one of his many appearances on The Breakdown that he genuinely wanted to make people happy and put smiles on kid's faces.

His older brother and retired NBA player, Mark Jackson was spot on when he said in a statement to the New York Post, "He traveled all around the world and touched so many lives,"

Troy did just that everywhere he went and it was always a pleasure to have him on as a guest on the show whether we were dissecting playoff series or listening to his childhood stories about being the younger brother of an NBA player.

I'll never forget a conversation we had with Troy once when we asked him how he would want to be remembered.

Here's what he said:

"I just want folks to say that Troy Jackson did it the right way, that's it. I want folks to remember me as a good guy."

And that's exactly how you'll be remembered Troy.

Thanks for the great times, the laughs and the lasting legacy you left for us all.

The MELO-drama continues

Ever since All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony declined to sign the three-year $65 million dollar contract extension with the Denver Nuggets, the trade rumors surrounding the superstar have been circulating around the entire league. Even though almost every team in the league would love to get their hands on arguably one of the best scorers in the NBA, only three teams have surfaced as possible destinations for the rising star.

Once the news of the contract extension being declined by Carmelo Anthony came out, the one team that seemed to be the frontrunner for Melo was the New York Knicks. Considering that Melo’s wife Lala Vasquez works in the Big Apple and the superstar forward played his college ball with Syracuse, New York was the perfect fit for Melo, but trade talks between the Nuggets and the Knicks have come up short as the two teams are finding it hard to agree upon a deal.

Unlike in years past, the New York Knicks are finally a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern
Conference once again. With the addition of All-Star forward Amare Stoudemire and point guard
Raymond Felton, this storied franchise is starting to get back on track as they seem to be playoff bound.
If the Knicks were able to bring Melo to the Big Apple they would get what many people believe as the final piece to the puzzle. With Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire and Raymond Felton, the New York Knicks might be able to contend with the likes of the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat in the East.

Unfortunately, the Knicks and the Nuggets just can’t seem to agree on a deal as Denver is asking too much and New York is unwilling to part with their promising young talent. With the Knicks failing to get a deal done with the Nuggets with the NBA trade deadline rapidly approaching, the New Jersey Nets have gotten back into the running for the All-Star forward as reportedly talks between the two teams have started up once again.

It wasn’t all that long ago that the New Jersey Nets new owner and Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokorov called off trade talks with the Denver Nuggets as he believed a deal just couldn’t be done. Not only were the Nuggets asking too much of the Nets, but the trade talks and rumors had become a big distraction for the team.

Ironically enough, the Nets are seemingly back in the mix for Carmelo Anthony as the two teams have begun talking once again. If a deal does get done between Denver and New Jersey, a third team like the Detroit Pistons might have to get involved. Otherwise, a deal including rookie Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy and draft picks for Carmelo Anthony would be the most likely proposal by the Nets.

Even though the New York Knicks and the New Jersey Nets are the frontrunners in the Melo
sweepstakes, the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers may be the dark horse as they can offer players like Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom and Shannon Brown.

Despite still being in the Mile High City after months of trade rumors, Carmelo Anthony could ultimately end up staying with the Denver Nuggets, but my best guess is that he is headed to the Eastern Conference before the NBA trade deadline on Thurs. Feb. 24, 2011.

The Blake Griffin Show Comes To Toronto!

Dave and I never grow tired of talking hoops so when we got the invite to hang out with Romy, Sean Francois and U-E AKA Hip Hoop Junkies & Hoop Heads North on their Raps talk podcast, we jumped at it.

Raps Talk is a weekly audio podcast that breaks down the Toronto Raptors and the rest of the NBA from a fan's perspective.

I gotta say that these guys were gracious and hospitable hosts and we had a lot of fun bantering back and forth about some NBA stuff, our hometown Raptors and the return of a player formerly known as CB4 as a member of the Miami Heat.

If that wasn't enough, you'll also get a chance to listen to Dave's passionate outcry to fans why they shouldn't boo Chris Bosh.

Coach Nick breaks down a good game between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. When Paul Pierce and Kobe Bryant got going, it was the Lakers who got the advantage. Doc Rivers still needs to adjust to teams that completely lay off Rajon Rondo, while Ray Allen broke the record for career three pointers made, formerly held by awful-shooting-form Reggie Miller.

A Word From Ryan #3

A few years ago, the Denver Nuggets were arguably one of the best teams in the league after they made a trade before the deadline to acquire Chauncey Billups in exchange for former NBA MVP Allen Iverson. When the deal went down a lot of people wondered why they would get rid of Iverson for Billups, but the trade completely turned the franchise as they finally had a solid floor general at the point guard position.

With Billups running the point and Melo shouldering the offense, the Nuggets made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals, but lost to the eventual NBA champion Lakers. Since then, the Nuggets haven’t really been able to repeat their success in the playoffs and have gotten progressively worse over time.

This season the Denver Nuggets will most likely be playoff bound once again as they currently would have the seventh seed in the West and still have a shot to win the Northwest division title, but it is highly unlikely that Carmelo Anthony will be on the team as he will almost certainly be traded before the deadline.

The one team that has been mentioned as Melo’s likely destination is with the New York Knicks, but he has also been linked to the New Jersey Nets, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks. Even though Melo could still be headed to the Big Apple, the Los Angeles Lakers have gotten in the mix as they have started talking with the Denver Nuggets about a deal involving their superstar.

The deal would send Lakers center Andrew Bynum and possibly some other players to the Nuggets in exchange for Carmelo Anthony. With Bynum being just 23 years old and a two-time champ, the Nuggets feel they can build around this young kid, but the Lakers seem ready to ship him out of town as they are tired of dealing with his injury problems.

At first glance, this seems to be too good to be true for the Los Angeles Lakers as their starting lineup would be extremely talented to say the least. With Kobe Bryant, Derek Fisher, Carmelo Anthony, Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol this team would be close to unstoppable. They would definitely have to strike some team chemistry like the Miami Heat had to with LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, but if they can do just that, a three-peat might be around the corner.

Whether or not this blockbuster trade goes down remains to be seen, but it will be interesting to see what happens if Melo and Kobe end up teaming up in Los Angeles.

Are the Lakers going to make a trade before the deadline?

This past Sunday the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers defended their home floor at the Staples Center in a NBA Finals rematch with the Boston Celtics. Even though the consensus was this would be a hard fought battle between two of the best teams in the league, the Celtics turned out to be the all around better team as they dominated the defending champs late in the game and came out with the convincing 109-96 victory.

Throughout the first half of this NBA Finals rematch, the Lakers and Celtics were going back and forth with neither team really taking control. Kobe Bryant started catch fire in the first two quarters as he led all scorers with 22 points heading into halftime, but the second half was another story altogether.

The Black Mamba did finish the game with his best scoring performance of the season with 41 points, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Boston Celtics who turned it on in the third quarter with Paul Pierce lighting up Ron Artest for a team-high 32 points. Along with Pierce dominating offensively, the Celtics were playing some of the best team basketball I have seen all season long.

The Lakers may have kept it close for most of the game, but the Celtics ball movement and inside presence was just too much for Kobe Bryant and company to handle. With arguably the best point guard in the league in Rajon Rondo getting everyone and finishing with a game-high 16 assists, the defending champs had no answer and were ultimately went down with a convincing win for their arch rivals.

One of the main reasons for the Lakers lackluster performance in a game they should have been extremely motivated to win was the disappointing performances of both Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. With a combined 23 points and 13 rebounds, the Lakers’ bigs failed to show up in game where their clear advantage is with their size and length.

As a result of yet another disappointing loss by Los Angeles, Lakers’ GM Mitch Kupchak has started to consider making a trade before the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 25. Ever since the blockbuster deal that brought Pau Gasol to L.A. from Memphis, Kupchak has stayed relatively quiet during the NBA regular season as there has been no reason to make any deals with the Lakers being arguably the best team in the league over the past two years or so.

Unfortunately though, a team that has an average age of 30 is not going to stay fresh and dominant for long in a league filled with young superstars like Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder), Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls) and Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers). With that being said, the possibility of a trade to get this team back on track seems like it could be in the cards within the next few weeks.

There are a few names swirling around in NBA trade rumors right now like Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets), Danny Granger (Indiana Pacers), Richard Hamilton (Detroit Pistons), Chris Kaman (Los Angeles Clippers), Andre Igoudala (Philadelphia 76ers), Monte Ellis (Golden State Warriors), O.J. Mayo (Memphis Grizzlies) and Samuel Dalembert (Sacramento Kings).

Out of all these names I’m not sure many of them really fit mold for the Los Angeles Lakers, but one or possibly two of these guys could be in a Lakers’ uniform before the deadline if Mitch Kupchak pulls the trigger on a deal.
